God and The Bible

The Basics

To Make Disciples

Your Questions?: Welcome

Who or what is God?

  • God is omnipotent. This means God is a being that has the power to do and be anything he sees fit. He has the power to say yes and it will be or say no and it wont be.

  • We learn who God is through the Bible.

  • God is the creator of all things. (Genesis 1:1 ESV ) In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

  • God has always existed. Everything that lives on Earth dies. God exists before all life and after. (Exodus 3:14 ESV) God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

  • God is good. ( Nahum 1:7 ESV) The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

  • God is love and loves us. (Isaiah 54:10) “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

  • God is a trinty made of the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV) Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Your Questions?: Who We Are

What is the Bible?

Knowledge, Wisdom and Guidelines of the way we should love and live for God and with one another.

  • The Bible is Gods words written down by man. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV) All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

  • The Bible tells you what path to follow when your heart and mind are at a loss of knowing. (Hebrews 4:12 ESV) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

  • The Bible teachs us right from wrong and how to forgive and love. (Joshua 1:8-9 ESV) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

What Is Sin?

We are all sinners.
Sin ultimately separates us from God.

  • Sin is basically doing something not out of Love or Gods will. (James 4:17) So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

  • Anything a person would define a child doing as bad is a sin for we are Gods children. (Mark 7:20-23 ESV) And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.

  • Sinning keeps you from getting into heaven and from not having eternal life. However trying to be a good person is not enough one must ask God for forgiveness from sin in order to be with and be Saved by God.

Story Of Jesus

In order to walk with God one must understand how much Jesus loves you and you must love him in return.

Jesus was born of a Virgin named Mary. Angels were sent to tell people of his coming and his birth. King Herod tried to kill him as a baby.

Jesus told as many people as he could about God. He performed miracles and healings.

(Matthew 4:23)

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Everything he did was for God and he led with love in everything he did. He would go around telling people about the love of God and how the teachers in the church were misled.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

The teachers and leaders of the church didn't like this so they planned to have him killed.

(Matthew 26:3-4) Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

He committed no crimes and was innocent of all things.

(Matthew 26:59-60) The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.

Pontius Pilate in the Roman Empire deemed his punishment to be crucified on the cross because the people begged for it. They did not realize or believe he was the son of the living God.

(Matthew 27 23-26) “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but instead, an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!” All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!” Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified.

Jesus was killed on the cross and buried in a tomb. On the third day, he rose from the dead and his mother and his disciples spoke to him after his death to ensure them that he was the son of God.

(Matthew 28 5-7) The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”He then ascended to heaven.

However, while Jesus was on the cross he forgave a sinner simply because he asked for it and said that he would see him in heaven.

(Luke 23: 42-43) Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

After Jesus' ascension into Heaven, his disciples then carried on his mission of healing writing scripture, and bringing people to God.

(Matthew 28 16-20) Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This had to happen:

God had to come to Earth in the form of man so that his blood would be shed for all sin so that we too can ask for forgiveness and enter the kingdom of Heaven with God when we die.

(1 Peter 2:23-24).“And while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed”
